Practical SQL - Tips and Techniques for Productive Business SQL
Are you tired of the examples of SQL that change the price for every item by
ten percent? Do you want someone to show you how to really use SQL? Well,
whether you want to create great traditional reports using embedded SQL,
build results sets that can drive powerful reporting tools like Jasper,
or use SQL as a data warehousing and archiving tool, this presentation
will focus on real world uses of SQL. Learn about formatting dates, using
CASE statements to handle special values, and dealing with user selection
criteria (select a warehouse or enter "*" for all). See examples of advanced
techniques including outer joins and CTEs (common table expressions). If
you've moved past "SELECT * FROM CUSTMAST", then you'll love this topic.
Getting the Most Out of Java and the IBM i
During this presentation, you'll gain a solid understanding of how to
use Java in a business environment. Practical examples show you how
and why you should add Java into your existing systems. See how JDBC
can access data anywhere in your system. Learn about the powerful
reporting capabilities of Jasper Reports, a tool which allows you to
generate PDFs and Excel spreadsheets with ease, and the JavaMail API,
which allows you to send them to your end users via standard email.
Familiarize yourself with the incredible spectrum of Java software — much
of which is free — so you can integrate it into your shop immediately!
Eclipse, Rational, RDi and WDSC: What They Mean to You and i
Eclipse has taken the development world by storm; Rational is IBM’s development
product line; and RDi is IBM’s must-have IDE, replacing the powerful WDSC
tooling. This soup to nuts presentation teaches you everything you need to
know about these four entities and how they interrelate. Explore RDi, the
PC-based GUI development tool that does everything PDM and SEU can do and
more, including providing a gateway to Web application development via RDi
SOA and EGL. Find out how RDi springboards from the Rational tooling that
is built on the open source Eclipse workbench, offering programmers hundreds
of reusable plug-ins. Walk through the basics of Eclipse, see how it makes
programming easier, and tap into some of the coolest RDi insider
techniques — little-known gems that will make you a more productive
developer. The presentation winds up with an overview of RDi-SOA, the
newest i-based tool in the Rational tool suite, and its free counterpart,
EGL Community Edition. Come get a look at what EGL can offer you!
Cost is $40 for members and $65 for non-members.
The meeting will be held at
Comfort Inn. Coffee
and donuts at 8:30.
